In an unexpected turn of events, Thanos, Villain of Avengers: Infinity War, will be making his way to Fortnite in a limited-time crossover event in Fortnite’s Battle Royale starting on Tuesday, May 8th. Exclusively revealed by EW, the new “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup” mode for Fortnite will be mostly identical to a standard Battle Royale match, yet now the famed Infinity Gauntlet will be in play. The Infinity Gauntlet will contain all six of the Infinity Stones, and the lucky player who stumbles upon it will turn into Thanos himself, along with the power he wields.
While further details are not available as of yet, we do know that the new mode will be available for free on all platforms that Fortnite is currently on. (Hurry up, Switch!)
The EW article also tells that Avengers: Infinity War directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, are massive Fortnite fans, and Joe Russo provided the following quote to EW about this mashup;
Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games, and then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.
The Donald they are speaking of is Donald Mustard, worldwide creative director of Epic Games, who said to EW;
Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas. It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started. Infinity War blew us away, and the Russos, [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige, and the whole team at Marvel have been incredible to work with. This kind of opportunity, where you have this mutual respect for someone’s work and you’re on the same page about doing something cool for fans, is rare and really exciting. We hope players love it.
