Just Cause 4 Announced Via Steam Leak

Oh E3. How we love the hype leading up to gaming’s annual mega-showcase. Even better, sometimes, are the occasional “oopsie” moments when someone flips the wrong switch and reveals something just a little bit early. In this case, it’s Square Enix, and the surprise leak of Just Case 4.

This little image just showed up on Steam’s News page.

Clicking on the image shows a link to the Just Cause 4 Steam page, which isn’t active yet, which leads users back to the Steam home page. General speculation has Square-Enix officially announcing Just Cause 4 during their Monday, June 11th E3 press conference. Given that the image is for a pre-purchase, it would seem likely that the latest game in the open-world destruction franchise will be out sometime before the end of the year.

Just Cause 3 was released in December 2015 a year after being announced. It was (and still is) available on PCs via Steam, Microsoft Xbox One, and Sony PlayStation 4 consoles. Presumably Just Cause 4 will target the same platforms, perhaps with the Nintendo Switch thrown in for good measure. Hopefully, the performance issues that plagued the console versions of Just Cause 3 will have been solved for the latest game.

Judging from the pre-order picture, it would appear that series protagonist Rico Rodriguez has gotten an upgrade to his grapple. The gun on his back looks to be a flat-topped M16 or M4 with an underslung 40mm grenade launcher. There’s also some other weapon in his hand. Some things never change, and Rico carrying significant firepower is one of them.

Marooners’ Rock will be keeping an eye on the latest developments from E3 and will have any new news about Just Cause 4. Until then, perhaps a reminder revisit through past games might be in order. All three games, along with their free multiplayer mods, can be acquired on Steam.
