Studio Ghibli Fest 2018, GKIDS, Fathom Events- Event Films

Fans of Studio Ghibli’s works will now have the chance to see their film “Pom Poko” on the big screen! Studio Ghibli created smash hits like “Spirited Away,” “Princess Mononoke,” and “Howl’s Moving Castle.” Now they want to show off Academy Award-nominee director Isao Takahata’s work! From June 17th through June 20th, “Pom Poko” will be available in cinemas across the U.S.

Takahata’s “Pom Poko” follows a village of tanuki (aka racoon dogs) in Tama Hills who are threatened by encroaching humans who seek to create more shopping malls and houses by clearing the forest. To save themselves, these tanuki make a final, desperate attempt to frighten the humans away. They learn the ancient art of transformation and shape-shift into a multitude of bizarre and comical shapes. Taking the guises of spirits and goofy humans, the tanuki hope that this ploy will save their home.

"Pom Poko," Studio Ghibli Fest 2018, GKIDS, Fathom Events- Pom Poko 3The film is acclaimed as heartwarming, poignant, and funny as it demonstrates the struggles of living in conflict with modern civilization. The studio frequently depicts clashes between nature and humans. Since Studio Ghibli has done very little that is anything short of excellent, “Pom Poko” ought to be both entertaining and enlightening!

An English and Western Laws & Ethics graduate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Matt’s doing his best to find his way back to Middle Earth or Naboo. However, the closest he can get is reading, writing, or gaming, so he’s trying to accept his lack of pet dragons and devoting himself to those things instead. In his spare time, he practices traditional Chinese Ken-Po in the hopes that he will someday become an Earth Bender.
