The open-world, narrative-driven RPG “Smoke and Sacrifice” is about to release on May 31st for the PC and Nintendo Switch! There will be a 20% discount during the first two weeks and PS4 and XBox One versions will come out later this year. To prepare you for the game’s vibrant, adaptive ecosystem, the developers Curve Digital and Solar Sail Games have also posted the following video!
“Smoke and Sacrifice” follows Sachi, a woman who is seeking her lost child. Although her baby was allegedly sacrificed to the Sun Tree, this world’s only light source, Sachi is convinced that her child is still out there. To find her, Sachi delves into an underworld rife with monstrosities that prowl a pervasive fog, waiting for unwary travelers and prey.
What Curve and Solar Sail seem especially excited about is the ecosystem that have created. According to them, the flora and faunas’ populations in this underground will adapt much as our own ecosystems do. If there is an abundance of food, there will be an explosion in reproduction. If there is a lean season for a plant or animal, you might see less of them as you explore.
In order to explore and survive in this gloomy wilderness, however, the player must learn how to trap, bait, and tame animals among other skills. In one case, you may need to tame a predator, while in another you may need to poison it. In another, you might need to somehow clear the pervasive fog or, apparently, siphon ectoplasm. Brought back to a natural state, you must use your wits to survive just as much as your fighting ability. Only then will you begin to uncover the mysteries behind the Sun Tree and your own village.
Aside from the above video, Curve has also provided a behind the scenes clip, demonstrating how the player can interact with their environment!
