Valkyria Chronicles 4 Release On Target In The West

Updated 6/15/18 @ 5:30pm CDT – A senior PR Manager for Sega of America and Atlus USA responded to the publication of this article with the following tweets:
“Oh, trust me, it is absolutely coming this year, and more specifically, this Fall.Don’t take Amazon placeholders as gospel. It’s easy to just ask me. Short story: I asked for the placeholder to be changed to the standard 12/31. So get ready to play on PS4, Switch, Xbox One and PC.”
“So yeah, … everyone else who retweeted this…this is incorrect and speculative.”

Valkyria Chronicles 4 Release Confirmation Tweet

Jacob Nahin confirmed that VC4 is still on target for a Fall 2018 release.

In April, Sega confirmed during Sega Fes 2018 that the Japanese version of Valkyria Chronicles 4 for the Nintendo Switch would be delayed until fall, to take advantage of the simultaneous release of a remastered version of the original Valkyria Chronicles for the Switch. No North American delay of any version (PlayStation 4, Switch, or Xbox One) was announced at that time. After a Steam page for the game appeared on June 11th, it appears that the game will also get a previously unannounced port to PCs.

As the first officially numbered sequel in the series to get a console release since the original Valkyria Chronicles in 2008 (2017’s Valkyria Revolution is a spin-off of the series set in a different fictional universe) Valkyria Chronicles 4 follows the exploits of a different squad during the same time frame as the original game. Combat follows the original formula of squad level turn-based strategy, and the art direction looks to be harnessing the power of current generation consoles to do things that the original PS3 optimized engine never could.

The PlayStation 4 version of the game was already released on March 21st, 2018 in Japan. Sega’s official website still shows Fall 2018 as the North American release date, however it also doesn’t show any prices. We do know that the game has been shown on the E3 floor this year, with numerous media outlets getting hands on with both the Switch and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. At this point it should just be a question of when, not if North American Valkyria fans get their hands on the proper console sequel we’ve been waiting a decade for. appears western gamers won’t have to wait until Christmas to get our hands on the proper console sequel that we’ve been waiting on for a decade.

A previous version of this story incorrectly claimed that a change by Amazon to the release date of Valkyria Chronicles 4 meant it would be delayed into 2019. The author regrets the error.
