It’s been the subject of multiple YouTube videos, and that is the quote: “What happened to Onimusha?” What was once a revolutionary series in the PlayStation 2 era has now become a forgotten title in the general public’s eyes. Onimusha seemed to be ahead of it’s time with it’s unmatched graphics and addicting bloody combat. Well apparently I was wrong about it being forgotten as the reception for this announcement has been positive all around. Just this morning, Capcom UK tweeted that the first game in the series, Onimusha: Warlords, will be remastered for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and even Switch!
Now from the trailer we see, this appears to be an HD remaster essentially. So don’t expect this to get the Crash Bandicoot or Spryo treatment. It is quite peculiar that we are getting this remake. One can argue that it’s only for nostalgia. I have a different theory. I’d like to think that we are getting this remaster to get the Onimusha name back in the spotlight, in the hopes of helping market a brand new title for the current generation. We can only dream!
