It’s hard to believe that we are only a little over a month away from the release of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2. Last month, we got an extended look at some of the new gameplay features that players will partake in. One thing that Rockstar has been quiet about is Red Dead Online. While many may see Red Dead Online as the Western version of Grand Theft Auto Online, it’s actually quite the contrary. The original multiplayer for 2010’s Red Dead Redemption was extremely innovative in it’s freedom to the players, and it set the foundation for what GTA Online would be come, so it owes a lot to the original Western masterpiece.
So all that being said, many of us want to know what the new updated Red Dead Online will entail. Well similarly to Grand Theft Auto V, the online component won’t be released until after the single player launches. Rockstar recently updated their website with information regarding Red Dead Online, which will first be released in November, but strictly as a public beta. This does seem like a good idea. While GTA Online is a huge phenomenon even today, it’s initial release was absolutely disastrous, and it took months for GTA Online to become the juggernaut it is today.
“As with most online experiences of this size and scale, there will inevitably be some turbulence at launch. We look forward to working with our amazing and dedicated community to share ideas, help us fix teething problems and work with us to develop Red Dead Online into something really fun and innovative.”
A common worry that I’ve seen throughout the gaming community is that Rockstar is going sacrifice the quality of it’s single player for the much more lucrative multiplayer component. Well this doesn’t seem to be the case as Rockstar is giving players a good month or so to complete the main story before the actual multiplayer is released, so this shows they are confident in the quality of their single player.
Red Dead Online will be available to download to anyone who owns a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2, which is scheduled to release on October 26 for Xbox One and Playstation 4.
