Wrap Your Tentacles Around The New ‘Call of Cthulhu’ Gameplay Trailer

Call of Cthulhu

Focus Home Interactive released a new trailer today for the official video game adaptation of Chaosium’s tabletop RPG, Call of Cthulhu.

The trailer goes into more detail about the various supernatural elements and creatures—cults, The Old Ones, the usual—as well as certain abilities and flaws that can help or hinder your Darkwater investigation. Edward Pierce’s strength won’t do much in a physical fight against the supernatural, so relying on other skills like speech, medicine, and occult knowledge will be crucial to discovering the truth and living long enough to solve the investigation. The higher your Spot Hidden and Investigation skills, the greater number of clues you’ll uncover and the greater chance of unlocking extra dialogue options. Eloquence and Psychology will come in handy when dealing with locals who are suspicious of your motives, and you’ll be able to improve your Medicine and Occultism skills by finding unique books and artifacts throughout the investigation.

Learning more about the occult is a catch-22, though; while you’ll be more prepared to deal with the horrors that await, every macabre encounter has the potential to reduce your sanity, with a serious possibility of completely losing touch with reality. Stealth will also be an important element to successfully completing your quests, but while hiding in a crawl space or closet might seem like a good idea, Edward Pierce has a crippling fear of small spaces and dark places, which will make it harder to go undetected.

Other key features in Call of Cthulhu include the ability to recruit and lead a small team of investigators who can solve different cases across the island, and a haunting, early 20th century setting that makes Indiana Jones’ escapades look like child’s play.

Call of Cthulhu releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 30th. Digital and retail pre-orders are available on PC and consoles. Check out the website for more information.
