Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Have Over 50 Weapon Types

Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Have Over 50 Weapon Types

Today, Rockstar updated their website with more information on the various usable weapons in Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as the weapon customization that. According to Rockstar, there will be over 50 usable weapons, each with their own specific characteristics. On top of that, there will also be different ammo types that can be crafted throughout, such as high-velocity and explosive rounds.

One aspect of Red Dead Redemption 2 that’s been stated is that players will no longer have the weapon wheel. Previous Rockstar open-world games, such as Grand Theft Auto V and the original Red Dead, had the weapon wheel become a staple of their formula, where players can carry every weapon they’ve obtained throughout. What made this entertaining is how characters would seemingly pull out any weapon from their pockets, even RPGs. This time around, Red Dead Redemption 2 is going the Max Payne 3 route, where Arthur can only bring along the weapons he can carry on his belt or back. This definitely goes along with the more realistic approach of the sequel. All weapons will need to be carried by the horse, which of course won’t join you in battle (maybe it will if it’s loyal enough).

The site also shows descriptions of certain classic weapons, such as the Cattleman’s Revolver, Sawed-off Shotgun, and Springfield Rifle. Each weapon is said to have their own descriptions at the various shops that explain the historical context behind them. It is said that the shooting mechanics are quite unique for the upcoming sequel. Instead of just having a button to shoot, certain buttons will also be required to do certain actions such as fanning the hammer back before shooting. I’m curious as to how much fun this will actually be, as we rarely have seen this in a video game before. Weapon degradation will also play a key-role. Weapons can eventually get dirty or jammed. So good care of your weapons is important as even the environment can have an effect on the weapon. Rockstar states that certain holsters can be crafted that protects weapons in more extreme weather environments.

Rockstar goes a little into the Dead-Eye system, which of course is being brought back. All the key features still seem to be in-tact, such as marking enemy body parts specifically. There is a new feature that will sort of give an x-ray vision of certain enemies, which will reveal key organs that can be shot. Pro-Tip, the head is on the top of the body. Dead-Eye will eventually be upgraded as the game progresses. Arthur can also drink certain tonics that will help with the cooldown rate.

Rockstar has been very subtle in the information being provided throughout the last few months. The game is only two weeks away, so hopefully we’ll get at least one more gameplay video. For now, we can enjoy these gorgeous screenshots. Red Dead Redemption 2 releases on October 26 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
