When it was first discovered that Red Dead Redemption 2 could have a massive file size of over 100 GB, many players gasped. Many of us cringed at the thought of having one single game take up almost 20% of our 500 GB hard drives. Another unpleasant thought was just how long that would take to download. Well have no fear. Rockstar just announced that pre-orders are able to pre-loaded as early as this Friday, October 19.
It turns out that the base game may not be over 100 GB as it was revealed in the Microsoft Store that game’s file size is roughly 88.57 GB (I mean that’s still pretty massive). Rockstar also announced that Red Dead Redemption 2’s launch trailer will release tomorrow, October 17. Since this is a launch trailer, I’m fairly certain this will be the last bit of game footage we’ll get prior to release.
It’s understandable that Rockstar is giving players so much time to prepare for this juggarnaut of a game. Everything about Red Dead Redemption 2 seems to be gigantic, from it’s world to it’s characters. Rockstar co-founder, Dan Houser, stated that there were over 700 voice actors giving over 500,000 lines of dialogue throughout this game’s long development cycle. However, this didn’t stop the game from falling into some recent controversy. In an interview with Vulture, Houser casually mentioned that certain individuals were working 100 hour work weeks to get this game out. This didn’t sit well with people in the industry, most notably, other developers. The gaming industry is no stranger to controversy in the workforce, as certain developers such as EA and TellTale have been accused of providing a harsh work environment.
The quote from Houser may have come out of context. We aren’t sure what exactly he meant, but Rockstar did release a statement that certain execs and writers voluntarily agreed on those 100 hour work weeks. The company stated that hours like that are not expected from their employees.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is less than 10 days away! The sequel is set to release next Friday, October 26 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
