Artifact Beta Officially Goes Live

Valve just sent out a press release letting people know that those who have beta keys for their highly anticipated (is it though?) card game known as Artifact can now redeem their keys and start playing. Anyone who has access to this beta can play all modes of the came until the release date on November 28th. I’m sure there’s a market out there amongst Valve fanboys for some alternative to Hearthstone, but since it’s not my kind of game, all I can do is let you know that the beta is available now.

If you care about what streamers and other people have to say about this game, there’s a pretty big article on Newsweek that highlights what some fairly well known TCG streamers have to say about Valve’s new experience. Sounds like the typical pay-to-win aspect of most TCG games, but I guess that’s better than a plethora of hats, right? Regardless, Valve’s already been trying to squash the backlash by proposing changes in a recent blog post.

Do you think this game has any sort of chance to survive in the card game market or is it going to be an overwhelming failure right from the start? Considering absolutely nothing has even come remotely close to touching Hearthstone, including Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls Legends, I can’t say I expect much out of this game. Maybe Valve will figure out some sort of way to entice players by allowing them to recycle stuff from their Steam inventory into cards for this game, cause it’d be cool to use crap I can’t get rid of toward literally anything so it’s not just sitting there stuck.
