Idea Factory has just posted a whole slew of information about their upcoming game Death end re;Quest! Set to release on February 22nd, the developers are teasing us with information! Check out their new characters, various screenshots, and an update to their expansive website!

For those of you unfamiliar with the project, Death end re;Quest revolves around a pair of video game developers: Arata Mizunashi and Shina Nimomiya. The creators of an intricate virtual reality MMO called World’s Odyssey, these two never saw their dream come to fruition. One day, Shina simply disappeared, crippling production. A year later, though, Arata receives an enigmatic email from his lost colleague!

Soon, he realizes that Shina has been tra“Death end re;Quest,” Idea Factory, PS4-Dialogue-Real Worldpped inside of the video game this entire time with no way out other than, perhaps, to achieve World’s Odyssey’s perfect ending. Unfortunately, there is only about a 1% success rating to achieve this. Furthermore, as they explore the game, the developers encounter a slew of corrupted data and maliciously installed “bugs” in the game’s software. To top it all off, Shina’s imprisonment seems to be no fluke, as the two of them strive against an unseen force that withholds her freedom.

As Arata codes and investigates Shina’s disappearance, he jumps between the real and the virtual world. Between that and their variety of surprisingly lifelike and personable NPCs they come across, it becomes increasingly difficult to draw a line between both humanity and A.I. and reality and the game. To make matters worse, though, the dangers are very real and will come for Arata and Shina both from the game and the real world.

The Consequences of your Actions: Death end re;Quest emphasizes the blurring between reality and virtual reality as the player needs to jump between World’s Odyssey and the real world around Arata. Players will need to investigate the real city and those in it perhaps just as much as they will battle digital monstrosities. However, the player must choose whether to act in reality or the game. These choices will change the course of events and the game’s ending!

A Turn-Based RPG?: Idea Factory has classified this as a “turn-based command battle system,” in which the player can freely roam and fight monsters. However, players can change the combat’s entire genre in the middle of a fight! One moment you may be playing a first-person shooter and the next change it into a fighting game! An interesting idea, to be sure. Let us hope it pans out!

A Glitching World: Players are promised an immersive world, filled with stunning environments and challenging battles. However, World’s Odyssey is rife with corrupt data. This can either help the player to reach hidden treasures in dungeons or may turn bosses into infected, rabid monstrosities.

The website has been updated to include a whole mess of new information! There is a slew of new screenshots featuring dialogue, information about a new in-game location called the Strain Area, and bios on some of the inscrutable being known as Ludens who live there.

An English and Western Laws & Ethics graduate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Matt’s doing his best to find his way back to Middle Earth or Naboo. However, the closest he can get is reading, writing, or gaming, so he’s trying to accept his lack of pet dragons and devoting himself to those things instead. In his spare time, he practices traditional Chinese Ken-Po in the hopes that he will someday become an Earth Bender.
