The first of the 2019 Games with Gold was announced earlier this month by Major Nelson as a Holiday Present. The January 2019 Games with Gold offer will offer players Celeste, Lara Croft, Far Cry, and WRC. Earlier this year, Celeste won multiple awards at The Game Awards, making it a great addition to the GWG library. Will the Games With Gold offer for January 2019 be a good indicator for the rest of the year?
Starting January 1st, Xbox Live Gold members will have the opportunity to download Celeste and Lara Croft: Guardian of Light. This is the second time that Guardian of Light has been a Games with Gold offer. Within the next few days, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft alters the offer due to negative community feedback. Xbox Live Gold members will also have the opportunity to download Never Alone until January 15th, 2019.
Celeste ($19.99) will be free from January 1st to 31st. Lara Croft: Guardian of Light ($14.99) (Xbox 360) is free from January 1st to 15th; hopefully, Microsoft will offer a different free title once the community responds to the offer. Celeste is a 2D platformer that gives players a retro throwback from the Best Independent Game winner. In Lara Croft: Guardian of Light, Raiders search for over 60 relics in a Dungeon Crawling adventure.
Starting on January 16th, Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download WRC 6 and Far Cry 2. WRC 6 ($49.99)will be free from January 16th to February 15th. The last and final January 2019 Games with Gold title is Far Cry 2; Far Cry 2 ($19.99) will be free from January 16th to January 31st. In World Rally Championship 6, racers can battle it out and show off their skills in eleven unique tracks. Far Cry 2 takes the player to Africa; hunt down the mysterious Jackal in the second installment in the popular Far Cry Franchise.
The January 2019 Games with Gold offer feels rather lackluster besides Celeste. All four titles are free to download with an active Xbox Live Gold membership. January’s offer leaves much to be desired. Hopefully, next month’s offer will be the worst of 2019. We will have to see if a visual update is included with Far Cry 2’s Games with Gold premiere; if not players will be in store for an uphill battle on the Cape of Good Hope.
