Earlier today we reported on the Kickstarter launch of Knitting – The Card Game, a multiplayer card game all about knitting. Less than twelve hours after launching, the game is already funded. It would appear that a lot of knitting fans wanted to make sure they had a skein in this game, and we’re not just spinning a yarn here.
Funded within a day is solid performance for any Kickstarter campaign, especially one with a somewhat niche target audience from a first time creator. It goes to show that there are a lot of knitters around, many of which are very excited about the idea of being able to play a card game about knitting, possible during a knitting group. No stretch goals have been announced for the project as of yet, although it seems like a save bet that those will be coming. The Kickstarter campaign still has thirty-one days to go and as of this writing is sitting at just over $16,000 of its original $12,000 goal.
Interestingly, this is hardly the first time that the worlds of knitting (or fiber artistry) and gaming have crossed over. Fans of Sony’s Little Big Planet series will of course point out Sackboy and his world, and there are a number of patterns around for creating a real world Sackboy of your own.
Far stranger, perhaps, is the case of the Nintendo Knitting Machine, an ’80s NES peripheral that made it to the prototype stage, but never actually saw the light of day. Maybe the time is right to resurrect that idea as a Nintendo Labo kit, and bring I Am A Teacher – Super Mario No Sweater to the Switch’s NES Console.
But for fiber fanatics looking for a good game right now, the Kickstarter campaign for Knitting – The Card Game is the place to spin up. Good luck, and may the cats never get into your good supplies!
