The popular mobile jet combat franchise Sky Gamblers has a surprise – a reworked game is coming to the Nintendo Switch! Sky Gamblers: Afterburner marks the first foray of the franchise off of the portable screen and into the living room.
Based on Atypical Games’ Sky Gamblers: Infinite Jets mobile game, Sky Gamblers: Afterburner represents the company’s decade of experience finally coming out of the mobile world. One of the major improvements over the mobile source material is said to include a totally reworked control scheme which allows for the use of Joy-Cons, the Pro Controller, or Motion Controls.
Sky Gamblers: Afterburner is set to ship with thirty aircraft, plus the ability to create and fly your own design. The game features real-world scenery from Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco, and Hawaii. Players will be able to enjoy a full single player campaign, or take on their fellow pilots in multiplayer modes which include Team Deathmatch, Free for All, Defend the Base, Capture the Flag, Last Man Standing, and Survival.
Here’s the thing: Ace Combat 7 isn’t coming to the Switch. So for players without a platform to play that game on, this is probably the best they’re going to get. This writer hasn’t played any of the Sky Gamblers mobile games, mainly because trying to play an action combat flight game on an iPhone screen sounds about as fun as trying to play basketball while blindfolded. Sure it’s technically possible, but why? However, I’ll give the Switch version a chance. There’s always room for another flying game in my book, especially one that likes to incorporate frequently overlooked aircraft like the AIDC F-CK-1 from Taiwan!
Sky Gamblers: Afterburner will be available for digital download on the Nintendo Game Store starting February 7th, 2019. Gamers who are interested in learning more about the game should check out the Atypical Games website, and follow them on Twitter.
