Less than 24 hours before their PAX East panel, developer Gearbox Software just released one last tease for what is to come. Now with all the hype surrounding Gearbox the last few weeks, many fans and media have stated with full confidence that we are bound for a new Borderlands game to be revealed. With this new trailer, it is now okay to assume that Gearbox is giving us some sort of information regarding the 4th entry in the series.
The teaser doesn’t reveal much (as it shouldn’t). The storyline is still up in the air regarding the sequel, but after the Borderlands 2 cliffhanger, it’s most likely going to take place on a different planet (or planets), instead of Pandora. As a huge fan of the series, I’m hoping Gearbox is going above and beyond and getting us off that planet as it has run it’s course with 3 games (including Tales from the Borderlands). There appears to be some sort of cult like group involved however, with a quick shot of worshippers bowing down to a set to twins. Could these twins be the game’s antagonists? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
But wait! There’s more. Fans on a Reddit Thread also noticed some secret codes constantly popping up in the teaser. The codes have been confirmed to be Shift Codes that players can unlock in Borderlands 2 (also The Handsome Collection). The code unlocks a new Salvador skin as well as 5 Golden Keys. Here is the Shift Code:

The first Borderlands was released ten years ago, and has since built up an extremely dedicated (and patient) community. The last few years haven’t been all that kind to Gearbox, with the rocky launch of Battleborn being overshadowed by Overwatch. Gearbox is looking for a win with this next series, and with the current gaming climate, many fans are worried about what the sequel will entail. Recent MMO looter shooters such as Destiny and The Division have taken over the market, but many are hoping that Borderlands stays true to it’s roots. Those roots being a single player game with excellent co-op. Still, this being a sequel that’s been 7 years in the making, the franchise will need to evolve in some sort of way.
The Gearbox panel will be aired live on March 28 at Tune 2pm EDT / 11am PDT.
