Last Month, Microsoft and Major Nelson announced the April 2019 Games with Gold offer. When the offer was first announced, many were skeptical. The April GWG offer featured a game that has commonly been seen in Xbox Game Pass, a remastered game, G.R.A.W, and a beloved Star Wars title. Ultimately, Star Wars Battle Front 2 was the saving grace for last month’s Games with Gold. Earlier this week, Xbox announced the May 2019 Games with Gold offer and oh boy.
Typically, I support a lot of the decision Microsoft and Xbox have made throughout the years. Now, this support does come based off an interesting relationship with Sony, but May 2019’s Games with Gold offer is questionable. Xbox Live Gold members will have the opportunity to download and play a pirate, golf, 3rd person shooter, and a comic book game. Xbox even states that the offer is worth S94.96. We will let you be the judge if the offer is truly worth that.
Starting on May 1st, Xbox Live Gold members will have the opportunity to download Marooners and Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon. Then on May 16th, Gold members will be able to download The Golf Club 2019 featuring PGA TOUR and Comic Jumper. Marooners will be free from May 1st to May 31st; while Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon will only be free until May 15th. From May 16th to June 15th, Gold members can download and play The Golf Club 2019 featuring PGA TOUR. Last but certainly not least, Comic Jumper will be available to download from May 16th to May 31st. Outcast: Second Contact will still be available to download until May 15th.
Now, free is almost always something people love. Sadly, the May 2019 Games with Gold offer is something most will redeem just to have. Marooners panders to a limited child-friendly audience. Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon brings back a somewhat loved 3rd person shooter. Then there is Comic Jumper, a game that has been in Game Pass for a bit; so that means anyone with Gamepass is being denied a free title. Finally, there is The Golf Club 2019 featuring PGA TOUR, a game that has a smaller following than any simulator games. Yes, even Bee Simulator.
The May 2019 Games with Gold offers are rather lackluster. Unlike previous months, the offers only appeal to limited gamers and feel like a waste. But what do you think?
