Have you ever wanted to become famous or popular through social media? Do you like the idea of live-streaming your daily activities out to random strangers or friends? Do you like to think of the world as a giant game? If you answered yes to all of these questions then you might want to become a streamer. If you answered yes to only a few then you might be interested in Subscribe My Adventure. At PAX East, we went on an adventure of our own and found this gem.
At PAX East, we met with the Thomas Huang, Co-founder of Island Nation. Thanks to Thomas, we had the opportunity to preview Gamtropy’s Subscribe My Adventure. Although the demo was rather short, we were able to grasp the developers’ intentions and had a blast doing so. Although, Subscribe My Adventure is currently in the development process so the final product could ultimately change from what we previewed, so take our thoughts with a bit of salt.
In Subscribe My Adventure, the player’s goal is to become a digital media celebrity by live casting their adventures out in the wilderness. Before heading out on their adventure, the streamer has the opportunity to choose the hashtags that they want to use to advertise their broadcast. The hashtags system is used to then create the player’s adventure, giving them the freedom to create their own story and find their own path. Once the heros returns from their adventure, players are informed about how the stream did and receive updates from their community.
As previously mentioned, the player is in control of their adventure. Before setting out, the player can choose their fighting style and how they can get a boost by entertaining their community. Depending on how the player completes their adventure, they will receive experience; experience determines how much the player can level their skills. The skills can determine the player’s attack, defense, experience earned, or social media influence.
Overall, Subscribe My Adventure was an enjoyable journey that satirized how the world views social media and live-streaming. The game is suspected to be released sometime in 2019. To follow the developmental progress, head on over to the Subscribe My Adventure Facebook page.
