SGDQ 2019 to Start on June 23rd

Once Again for Doctors Without Borders

SGDQ 2019 to Start on June 23rd

It’s that time of year again! In a few days Summer Games Done Quick or SGDQ 2019 will be kicking off into another week of raising money for Doctors Without Borders. Last year SGDQ reached over $2 million dollars; the event is consistently Doctors Without Borders’ biggest single fundraising event every year. Featuring talented gamers showcasing their skills one game at a time for a week straight, SGDQ will probably, like always, beat the previous record.

Doctors Without Borders is a charity organization that uses its funds to provide emergency medical relief around the world. Sending supplies, medical professionals, and other provisions to help people who need it most. Talking to some of the reps of the charity last year, they said they were all touched and amazed by the community that gives so much to their cause. SGDQ 2019, I’m sure, will be no different.

SGDQ is a fantastic way to experience speedruns, as each run is typically accompanied by commentary that adds context to what is happening in the game. Special events that usually appear in the SGDQ lineup are races, TASBot, Bad Games Block, and randomizers. SGDQ 2019 will have a Legend of Zelda (NES) randomizer race, Super Mario World 3v3 relay race, a 35 minute Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild run, and plenty more!

I had the privilege of attending SGDQ last year, and had an absolute blast! Highlights for me were definitely the 3v3 Super Mario Maker relay race which featured some ridiculously crazy levels and had about 300+ people cheering and yelling in the room. There was also an extremely impressive Super Mario Odyssey Any% run by NicroVeda, as well as a fascinating Legend of Zelda Windwaker HD run by Linkus7. Seeing these live was truly a unique and fun experience! Check them out yourself  below!

Be sure to check the SGDQ 2019 schedule and tune into the official GamesDoneQuick Twitch channel starting on Sunday June 23rd. Retro classics, modern favorites, obscure gems, terrible releases, it’s all represented at SGDQ with all of them quickly defeated in ways that incite wonderment, all while raising money for a great cause with lots of awesome prizes as donation incentives.
