Yesterday afternoon, we had the pleasure of meeting with Blizzard-Activision and their assisting PR team to preview Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Upon arriving in the private event suite, we were offered candy, soda, and water to get our engines revving. The wheels slid off the track though when the team decided to reveal that Spyro Reignited Trilogy would be coming to the Nintendo Switch on September 3rd.

Spyro’s well-celebrated trilogy has finally landed on the former competitor’s platform after being an icon of the PS1 at its height. Starting on September 3, 2019, Spyro Reignited Trilogy will create its den on Nintendo Switch and PC for the first time.  Want to fly around as Spyro while flying in a plane? Do it! Want to play Spyro on a train? Do it! With a boat or in a moat? Do it, just be careful of water, it doesn’t mix well with Switch systems. . .  Steam players will have the opportunity to play Spyro on PC with up to 4K graphics and uncapped framerate capability.

Sadly during our meeting, we primarily focused on Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled so this is what Activision staff listed out for Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

  • Unleash the Dragon – The purple dragon that stole gamers’ hearts 20 years ago is back and looking more fly than ever in scaled-up HD graphics. This is the Spyro with swagger and personality that fans remember from their childhood.
  • Dynamic Collection – The Spyro Reignited Trilogy lets players glide to new heights, unleash fire-breathing attacks, and explore lush environments filled with new detail bringing the Dragon and Avalar realms to life in more than 100 levels from the first three games. Each level in Spyro Reignited Trilogy is mapped in the spirit of the originals, now re-imagined with modern mechanics to give fans an excellent gaming experience.
  • Nostalgia n’ More – Explore the expansive realms, re-encounter the fiery personalities and relive the adventure in fully remastered glory. Returned and remastered Orb Challenges, mini-games and more make this an epic trilogy for the diehard Spyro-maniacs!
  • So Fly – The game collection is stunning, lush, and fiery! The Spyro Reignited Trilogy introduces players to a completely remastered game collection with a re-imagined cast of characters, brand-new lighting, animations, environments, and recreated cinematics—all in stunning HD.
  • Fresh Controls, Original Adventure – The trilogy breaks free from the gameplay chains of the ‘90s with updated controls, silky-smooth game camera handling, and full analog stick support for added flavor in this one-of-a-kind adventure.
  • Did You Hear That? – Fans of the Spyro games may recognize some familiar sounds in Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Tom Kenny, the voice actor in Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon and fan-favorite reprises his role as the voice of Spyro. The new collection also remasters Stewart Copeland’s original soundtrack from the first three games, but also includes an all-new track from Copeland, entitled “Tiger Train.” Spyro Reignited Trilogy introduces an option that will allow fans to switch between the original and remastered music from the in-game menu.

Whether you are experiencing the Spyro trilogy for the first time or hoping to revitalize the nostalgic feelings from the first time around, you will have the opportunity to play Spyro Reignited Trilogy on PC and Switch on September 3rd, 2019. At launch, the game will cost $39.99 on the two platforms. Spyro Reignited Trilogy is already out for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
