It was speculated recently that Gearbox was planning to release a brand new DLC for Borderlands 2 around E3 time. Rumors recently suggested that the new DLC will be titled “Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary.” Due to a possible leak on Steam, it looks like this may be true.
The alleged Steam page has since been removed, but it gave us details on the release date. According to the page, Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary will be released on June 9. It’s supposed to set the stage for Borderlands 3. Since the hub area in Borderlands 3 is called Sanctuary 3, it’s more than likely we’ll get to see what happened to the infamous Sanctuary 2.
The original Steam page gave the following description:
Return to the award winning shooter-looter for a new adventure that sets the stage for the upcoming Borderlands 3. Sanctuary is under siege, the Vault’s map has been stolen and a toxic gas is poisoning Pandora. Fight new bosses, explore new zones, get new loot (including an entirely new tier beyond Legendary) and join up with Lilith and the Crimson Raiders to take on a deranged villain hell-bent on ruling the planet
Returning players can pursue an increased level cap of 80, while newcomers can automatically boost to level 30 and dive straight into the action.
It can be seen on the new image that the psychos have some sort of plant around them. This could potentially be recovered from The Lost Luxy Space Adventure DLC from The Pre-Sequel. This DLC sadly never got released as Gearbox Australia went through development issues.
The icing on the cake to all of this is that this new DLC may even be free! This could be a great strategy for Gearbox to acquire more players prior to Borderlands 3. The Handsome Collection just went on sale on Steam for a measly $6. It also just became the free PlayStation Plus game for June. Releasing the remaster for free and then coming up with new content will surely bring in new players to see what the Borderlands craze is all about.
