Terraria hits Switch this Week

Terraria on Switch

Ever thumb through gaming news feeds only to stop at a piece of information and go, “Oh, that’s neat?” That was me after finding out that the classic crafting adventure Terraria is coming to Switch on June 27th. The release just makes sense as the game has been on just about every platform and the Switch is quickly becoming the go-to for games of all types. It is a perfect match for the small but mighty system.

Terraria is a gem of a game and it has been for a long time. During the height of Minecraft’s popularity, I remember seeing the 2D spin on the idea and thinking that Terraria had an interesting twist to the crafting and gathering mechanics. Little did I know that it would become a long-supported title with a huge spread of content with tons of players. To this day, I have friends running around with the same characters they’ve been building up since the beginning.

It’s still getting updates too! Re-Logic announced at E3 that a new PC patch entitled Terraria: Journey’s End that’s slated to release by the end of the year.

The game will launch Thursday on the Switch E-Shop with the physical retail version (which is sporting a snazzy cover) coming later on.

The developers will be pretty active online over the next few days, dropping into Twitch streams, chatting with players on Twitter, and hosting an AMA on Discord. The open questions session with Pipeworks Studios will start tomorrow, June 26th at 12:00pm PST on the official Terraria Discord.

Really, we’re always pretty excited to see games added to new platforms, especially when they make the leap to our favorite handheld hybrid. With games like Terraria on the go, it will be easy to lose many hours in the magical lands, deep catacombs, and boss-guarded keeps.
