Ubisoft’s latest entry in the series was rumored a long time ago. The most accurate of these rumors was that it was going to take place in London, which has turned out to be true. Watch Dogs: Legion is set in a post-Brexit London, known for its heavy surveillance on the citizens.
Aside from the fact that this is the perfect setting for Watch Dogs, it appears to be one of the most ambitious games we’ve seen from Ubisoft. Watch Dogs: Legion let’s the player not only recruit any NPC in the city, but also play as them. How the logistics of that works seems like a nightmare for the development team, but we’ll have to wait and see.
According to the creative director, all NPCs have their own voices, personality, and backstories. He state we can play as a “classic team of British spies, crew of street savvy kids from the block, hipsters, afropunk, gangster.” This is something that can really benefit the tone of the game.
One issue with Watch Dogs 2 was the protagonist, Marcus. Yes, he had way more personality and charisma than Aiden from Watch Dogs. That being said, Marcus did not seem like the lethal assassin the game wanted him to be. It’s hard to believe that Marcus was capable to killing a guard in cold blood.
With this new NPC system, I suppose we’ll be able to play as any type of character we want. If I want to be a stone cold killer, then I’ll be sure to make sure I choose the NPC that fits that profile. In the demo shown, we got to see a classy elderly woman with sharp wit, but happened to be a retired assassin. Now, I’m sure many are hesitant about this game. After all, this could all sound too good to be true. Still, it’s an exciting new system that could either fail, or set a new bar for open world games.
Luckily, we won’t need to wait too long. Watch Dogs: Legion will be released on March 6, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Check out the demo below.
