Benoit Gomes Talks Career Mode in New WRC 8 Video

There’s nothing like a good head-to-head battle to bring out the best in both competitors. This year, WRC 8 is looking to take down the big dog of rally racing games with a revamped career mode, new off-road physics, and a host of other improvements. In fact, Bigben and KT Racing have just released a video to showcase how Career Mode has been completely redesigned for WRC 8.

For most racing games, the career is traditionally both the most popular and most played game mode. KT Racing took feedback from their fan community in revising the career for WRC 8, and it sounds like it’s going to offer quite the challenge. Players will progress from season to season to compete in the WRC category, while simultaneously managing three different major areas when they aren’t directly in a race.

First, they’ll need to plan out their team’s season calendar to figure out what to do between rallies. Train, do a manufacturer’s challenge, try some classic events? Maybe just take a well-deserved week off?

Snow kidding, there’s a lot of different environments to race through.

Second, they’ll need to manage a crew with six different, but interconnected job roles. Crew members each have unique characteristics, and need to be used strategically in each rally.

Finally, there will be the chance to upgrade the crew through Research & Development and an evolving skill tree. Skill trees can evolve differently based on player choices, and those decisions will also have an impact on both progression and crew morale. A happy crew performs better than an angry crew who are all working outside of their preferred positions.

There’s a lot of WRC 8 screenshots of cars driving on dirt. That’s just because a lot of rally stages happen on dirt, and not some sort of subliminal message about the competition, we’re sure.

WRC 8 is the official video game of the FIA World Rally Championship. The game will be released for Microsoft Xbox One, Nintendo Switch™, PC, and Sony PlayStation®4 consoles in September 2019. On release, in addition to the new physics model and redesigned Career Mode, it will feature dynamic weather, fifty-two teams, fourteen countries, over one hundred special stages, weekly challenges, and an eSports mode.
