What’s old is new again; at least that seems to be the ongoing theme! The recent trend of micro consoles has made classic games more accessible than ever before. Prior to companies making their micro consoles, collections of retro titles have been made available on modern platforms. Compilation discs are nothing new and have proven to be very successful. Titles like Mega Man Legacy Collection or Disney Afternoon Collection prove that there is still demand for old-school games. Disney is at it again, announcing the all-new Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King!
At first glance, Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King may appear to only contain two games. This proves not to be the case, as it actually consists of five titles. The Game Boy and Sega Genesis versions of Aladdin, and the Game Boy, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis versions of The Lion King. The omission of the SNES version of Aladdin is a disappointment, however, justified. All five titles were initially developed by Virgin Interactive, whereas the SNES version of Aladdin was developed by Capcom. Each game will be playable with upscaled graphics, customizable controllers, special filters, and of course in their original form.
In addition to the five games, the collection will also feature some never before released versions of Aladdin. The first being the original trade show demo, which has not been publicly available in 26 years. The collection also includes a “final cut” version, although there are currently no details on what that entails. Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King will also feature many unreleased assets. These include developer interviews, a music player, and an art gallery. All of the additional content proves that this collection is a labor of love by developer Digital Eclipse.
Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. It releases on October 29th, and will retail for $29.99 USD. Pre-orders are live at both GameStop and Best Buy.
