Yesterday morning, possibly the best Games with Gold was announced by Major Nelson and the Xbox Crew. The upcoming August 2019 Games with Gold offer will feature two Microsoft exclusive AAA titles and two exciting Xbox 360 games. For months, the Xbox Live community has criticized Xbox’s decision regarding the program; luckily, August’s offer has potentially restored the communities faith. According to the Xbox crew, the August 2019 Games with Gold offer is valued at $94.96. The four Games with Gold offers are great unless you are a member of Xbox Gamepass. If that’s the case, then August’s offer is still decent for most.
Starting August 1st, Xbox Live Gold members will have the opportunity to download and play Gears of War 4 and Torchlight. Then on August 16th, Torchlight will be replaced by Forza Motorsports 6 and Castlevania: Lords of Shadows. All four titles bring their own unique art and play style with Torchlight and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow holding up. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Torchlight are almost a decade old but still have a worthwhile experience to offer new players.
Gears of War 4 ($29.99 E.R.P) is free from August 1st to August 31st. This offer will allow Xbox Live Gold members who have yet to play Gears 4 the ability to catch up before Gears V. New players will be introduced to a new set of characters: Kait, J.D, and Del. Gears of War 4 also brings back some fan favorites in supportive roles.
Playing throughout the month of August may also grant players exclusive unlocks for Gears V when it releases on September 10th, 2019. We recently noticed too that the voice actor for classic character Dom Santiago has a ton of faith in the franchise and expects to see some big reactions from players this year.
Torchlight ($14.99 E.R.P) is action role-playing dungeon crawler. The game features a similar style of gameplay that’s comparable to the Diablo franchise, which is really solid on Switch. Torchlight will be free to Xbox Live Gold members until August 15th. Torchlight is from developers who worked on Diablo and Fate. Players pick between three classes, Destroyer, Alchemist, and Vanquisher and set out to find treasure or love in the dungeons. Torchlight also prepares Xbox Live Gold members for the release of Torchlight 2 for Xbox One on September 3rd.
Next up is the racing masterpiece Forza Motorsport 6 ($29.99 E.R.P). This is not the first time Microsoft has offered a Forza title as part of the Games with Gold program. Race over 450 cars over 26 locations with up to 24 players in this graphics powerhouse of a title. Forza Motorsport 6 will be free from August 16th to September 15th.
Finally, Xbox Live Gold members will have the opportunity to play another Castlevania game. This is the second month in a row that Xbox has offered a Castlevania title. Starting on August 15th, Castlevania: Lord of Shadows ($19.99 E.R.P) will send players on a quest of vengeance to avenge your fallen love. Take over Gabriel as he sets out to defeat the three factions of the Lord of Shadow.
For those who loved God of War and Shadow of the Colossus, this is certainly a game to check out. Castlevania looks to be setting up for a comeback, as the Netflix series has been critically acclaimed and there have been two classic game packages released, including Castlevania Requiem, which had fan favorite Symphony of the Night.
