The launch date of Gears 5 is less than a week away. Since E3 2019, The Coalition has been releasing limited information about Gears of War 5 outside of major events. Today, the Gears of War team has announced another new addition to the Gears of War Franchise. Starting on September 15th, The Animal Dave Bautista will be joining the Gears of War franchise. This is yet another playable character announced for the upcoming sequel to Gears of War 4.
Earlier today, it was announced that Dave Bautista “Batista” would be joining the fight in Gears 5. For years, Dave Bautista and Terry Crews have vocalized their desire to be part of the Gears of War Movie. Although the Gears of War Movie has been in hiding, Dave Bautista still wants to play the role of Marcus Fenix. Upon the official announcement, the Xbox Official website revealed Bautista’s role in the upcoming title. Batista will be available to unlock after the WWE PPV Clash of Champions is over. Will Dave Bautista play a prominent role in Clash of Champions or is it just a coincidence? Bautista will be free to unlock from September 15th until October 28th.
This is just the latest character announcement made for Gears 5 with characters from Halo and the Terminator franchise being announced earlier this year. Players will have the opportunity to play as either Sarah Connor (COG) or the T-800 model Terminator (Swarm) to promote Terminator: Dark Fate. In addition to playable Terminator characters, two members of Halo Reach’s Noble Six team will be playable; Emile-A239 and Kat-B320 will join the fight with their original voice actors reprising their roles.
With the announcement of Dave Bautista as a playable character, Rod Fergusson stated that over “700 voice lines recorded for the game and that the Armor fit Dave perfectly.”
“Adding Batista to Gears 5, we started with the fantasy of ‘Batista as Marcus,’ putting Batista into Marcus’ armor, and starting with Marcus’ script. Then we added elements of “The Animal” Batista into his voice performance and onto his look by adding his signature Hollywood shades to his character. Batista was great in the booth and I can’t wait for Gears and Batista fans alike to stomp some Swarm as The Animal.”
Gears 5 launches on Xbox, Xbox Game Pass, and Windows PC on September 10th. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate users will have access to Gears 5 starting on September 6th.
