September has been filled with AAA title after AAA title and gamers around the world have had the opportunity to dive into some of their favorite franchises after waiting patiently. Although September is halfway over and it is almost time to wake Billie Armstrong, gamers have had their share of excitement and disappointment. So far, AAA titles Catherine Full Body, Gears 5, NBA 2K20, and Borderlands 3 have released alongside The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Code Vein is just around the bend. Because of these major releases, many questioned what the Games with Gold and PlayStation Plus offers would be for the month of September. Now that we are halfway through the month of September, let’s compare the two offers and decide which offer is stronger.
For the month of September, Sony is offering PlayStation Plus users Batman Arkham Knight and Darksiders 3 for free. From September 1st to September 30th, PlayStation 4 users have the opportunity to redeem both of these AAA titles. Each title has its own cult following and received decent review scores. Check out our reviews of these two titles by clicking on the Batman Arkham Knight and Darksiders 3 links. Sadly, I have not had the opportunity to play either title, but because of this offer, I will give each a fair run through.
Up next is the Xbox Games with Gold offer for September. The September Games with Gold offer grants Xbox Live Gold members 4 free games; at the moment, Gold members can only pick up three of the four September offers. The four offers are Hitman: The Complete First Season (9/1 – 10/1), We Were Here (9/16- 10/15), Earth Defense Force 2025 (9/1 – 9/15), and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (9/16 – 10/1). Sadly, we have not reviewed any of the four titles.
Comparison
When it comes down to comparing the two offers, which is better? Is the number of games more important than the game’s rating? If we compare the two offerings by review score alone, the Games with Gold title’s average an 8 while the PS+ offers average an 8.1. If we compared by the number of games, the Games with Gold offer would win 4 to 2. Should we compare by variety? Sony offers two hack-and-slash adventure games, while Xbox offers two third-person shooters, a puzzle game, and a fighting game. Based on variety, the Games with Gold offer would win. Finally, if we went based off of gamers’ opinions, the PS+ offers would win. Based on these four criteria, there would be a tie between the two offers.
