The WWE Draft is upon us! Tonight the WWE roster will be up for grabs with FOX and USA as the top two bidders. Earlier this year, WWE announced the wild card rule in an attempt to show that superstars from each brand could cross over. Sadly, this ridiculous rule caused confusing storylines while failing to improve the WWE’s ratings. With Smackdown now airing on FOX on Friday nights, WWE, USA, and FOX look to solidify each brand’s roster. What WWE superstars are eligible for the draft and how will it affect the WWE landscape leading up to Wrestlemania?
During the early 2000s, the WWE found itself with an influx of talent after acquiring WCW. Because of this increase in talent, WWE started Smackdown. Prior to moving to the USA network, Smackdown aired on the UPN network. Now with Smackdown returning to Friday nights, a new WWE draft is in the works. Tonight will be the first night of the draft where 30 superstars will be up for grabs. Not all of the big-name talent will be eligible to be drafted tonight. The first draft will be decided by a match between Seth Rollins (Raw) and Roman Reigns (Smackdown). Below are the official draft rules according:
WWE Draft Rules
More than 70 Superstars, including Tag Teams, have been placed into this year’s WWE Draft pool.
30 Superstars will be eligible to be drafted tomorrow night while 41 Superstars will be eligible on Monday Night.
Since Friday Night SmackDown is a two-hour show and Monday Night Raw is a three-hour show, for every two SmackDown picks, Raw will get three.
Tag Teams will count as one pick unless FOX or USA Network specifically wants to pick one Superstar from the team.
Any undrafted Superstars will immediately be declared free agents and able to sign with the brand of their choosing.
This could mean undrafted WWE talent could head over to NXT to give the Wednesday night show star power it needs to compete against AEW in the Wednesday Night Wars. Hopefully, this division of talent will push less used WWE superstars to attention. Here are the 71 superstars eligible to be drafted and the nights they are available.
