“Toss a coin to your Witcher, oh valley of plenty, oh valley of plenty, ohohooooh”. If you are anything like me, this simple line has been stuck in your head since hearing the song on the recently released Witcher series on Netflix starring Henry Cavill as Geralt, but in this particular case and perhaps more importantly also stars Joey Batey as the bard Jaskier. Jaskier sings the song after one of his adventures with the “Butcher of Blaviken” to help change the witcher’s public image.
It was only a matter of time before the catchy tune started seeing numerous covers. Many artists often mix things up and put their own flavor to a cover by changing the genre or sound to make theirs stand out from others. Chris Chronos decided to start the new year with a Folk Metal cover of “Toss a Coin to your Witcher”. His particular cover adds plenty of rocking metal elements to the instrumentation while keeping a more folk sounding vocals layered with some acoustic instruments, and the mix is stellar. Featuring a heavy guitar solo in the middle and melodic operatic portions in the vocals, Chronos creates a powerful version of the song.
The result only further cements the song into my brain. Luckily I am far from being sick of the song and will be listening to this version again and again.
The video is gaining some popularity and spreading quickly as it has garnered over a thousand views in the time it took me to write this report. Pretty impressive for a channel with only about 1.5k subscribers! Are there other songs you’d love to see Chris cover in this style? Let him know in a comment on the video!
