Whenever you think of Australia what comes to mind? Do you think of Steve Irwin showing off exotic animals? Do you think of the cheesy Crocodile Dundee or Kangaroo Jack films? Many just know it as the continent where almost everything can kill you or the former British prison colony. Sadly, Australia has recently been on many peoples’ minds due to the continent being on fire. Although the brush fire season is just starting, this year’s fires are some of the worst that the continent has seen in a long time. In an effort to raise money for repairs, ReedPOP and other game developers are working with Game Devs for Firies.
From January 14th until 11 am AEDT January 22nd, 2020, developers around the globe will be using the hashtags #GameDevsforFireys & #GameDevsforFiries to auction off different gaming memorabilia. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to a variety of charities. All proceeds are supporting the effort to end Australian bush fires and repair efforts. The damage from the Australian bush fires is tremendous with lasting effects globally to come. These bush fires have damaged thousands of homes, killed thousands if not millions of endangered animals, and released a ton of CO2 and methane into the atmosphere. “Don’t Worry Guys, Global Warming Doesn’t Exist.” Please tell me then why I am lacking snow in the upper north.
Auction Rules
Climate Change aside, here are the rules that each developer must follow when auctioning off each item.
Each dev involved (open invitation) creates a tweet announcing an item, unique opportunity or service they are offering to donate. The tweet will include a supporting image, plus the auction end time and hashtag #GameDevsforFireys.
Twitter users reply to that tweet with their bid in Australian dollars. Bidding continues on that thread (in increments of $1 Australian dollar or more) until the auction end time.
When the auction has ended, the item ‘owner’ messages the highest bidder on the thread.
The highest bidder is instructed to donate directly to an Australian state fire service. Some devs will nominate, others will leave it up to the highest bidder to choose. Either way the bidder must provide proof of donation to the item ‘owner’.
When proof of donation is received, the item or service is dispatched.

Global Gaming Content Director at @Reed_POP – @PAX, Guy Blomberg, is also joining in on the campaign offering select PAX items for auction. Below are just three of the items up for auctions with all proceeds going to a great cause. So far Obsidian, Humble, Monomipark, Delusional Inc, Independent developers, WarHorse Studios, and more have joined in to support the cause. Humble Bundle link.
Myself and @Reed_POP / @PAX are supporting #GameDevsForFireys by auctioning off 2 x badges to any one PAX of your choosing, including a personal tour of the show floor with me the day before it opens.
To bid just comment on this post with a dollar amount higher than the last!
