It has been a while since we covered Microsoft’s Games with Gold offers. So to rectify these grievous transgressions we will be covering the January 2020 Games with Gold offer and giving our impressions of some of the titles. Based on the January 2020 line up, it seems that Microsoft is looking to say Let’s Do This! They could also be embracing the New Year New You motto, with Microsoft who knows.
The December 2019 Games with Gold offer featured Toy Story 3, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD, Jurassic World Evolution, and Insane Robots. Jurassic World Evolution is still free until January 15th. Sadly. all four of January’s titles felt rather mediocre compared to a majority of titles released in 2019. Microsoft could have planned these four games knowing that many gamers around the world would be receiving new AAA titles for the Holidays. In retrospect, this was a wise choice by them.
January titles
The January 2020 Games with Gold offer feels like a vast improvement offering compared to the December 2019 Games with Gold. The January 2020 Games with Gold offers are Styx: Shards of Darkness, Batman: The Telltale Series – The Complete Season (Episodes 1-5), TEKKEN 6, and LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy.
Starting on January 1st, Xbox One Gold members can download Styx: Shards of Darkness ($19.99 ERP) for free from January 1st to January 31st. In addition to Styx, Xbox One and Xbox 360 Gold members will be able to download Tekken 6. Tekken 6 ($14.99 ERP) will be free to all Xbox Live Gold Members from January 1st to January 15th.
Starting on January 16th, Xbox One Gold members can download Batman: The Telltale Series – The Complete Season and LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. Batman: The Telltale Series – The Complete 1st Season (Episodes 1-5) ($14.99 ERP) will be free to download from January 16th to February 15th. Finally, Xbox One and Xbox 360 members will have the opportunity to download and play LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy ($14.99 ERP) will be free from January 16th through January 31st.
Out of all four Games with Gold titles, we strongly recommend Batman: The Telltale Series and Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy. Lego Star Wars II can provide hours of comedic relief that only Star Wars games know how to give and is a great game to play with all friends and family. Batman the Telltale series is a bit gritty and gives a new spin to the Batman franchise. In this Telltale imagining, you must discover how Bruce Wayne’s prior relationships affect his current situation. This Batman installment will get you to laugh, scream, and even potentially cry.
