Umaiki Games’s upcoming action RPG “Skellboy” has now appeared in the Nintendo Store for preordering! Publisher Fabraz is launching this title for the Nintendo Switch in much the same manner that they published “SpiritSphere DX.” Considering that Fabraz is the same developer that created “Slime-san,” their taste in partners is probably good and our excitement justified. If you want to get the game as soon as it releases on January 30th, then preorder is the way to go!
Picturesque, peaceful, and only occasionally visited by apocalyptic calamities, Cubold Kingdom seemed idyllic. Somewhere along the line, the princess even began dating the king’s court magician. A magical romance, no? Well, she eventually dumped him, somehow failing to consider that he was an evil son of a gun. Thus spurned, he summoned malicious spirits to inhabit and resurrect the land’s dead and its fabled monstrosities. Thus did his vengeful scouring of the Cubold Kingdom begin. (See people? This is what dating a bad boy/girl gets you. An interminable plague of the undead. Every time.)
Fortunately for everyone else, this mad mage was not particularly mindful in his reanimating. Along with the legions of thralls and monsters, he has also summoned an ancient and powerful hero: Skippy.
Playing as Skellboy Skippy, you can enjoy the vibrant scenery, energetic music, and disassembling your own skeleton like a high school anatomy project! Okay, that last bit was a little over the top, but the idea stands. As a skeleton, the player can tear out certain bones and replace them with others that they find! This can grant any number of abilities and buffs to aid your assault on the magician’s armies! Pair that with a variety of weapon types and “Skellboy” promises to facilitate a multitude of fighting styles.
As you gather what armaments you need, you can also journey throughout Cubold at will. This interconnected world promises “an expansive single player experience.” You can visit villages and banquet halls or simply wander the fields and appreciate the square-shaped clouds.
Don’t let the lighthearted art style and humor fool you, though. Umaiki and Fabraz have promised that this action RPG is sure to test your skills. The bosses and certain special enemies are rumored to be particularly rattling. Considering that you are playing as a skeleton, though, it would be a little disappointing if you didn’t die every now and then, right?
