Gears Rod Fergusson Leaves for Diablo

When you think of Gears of War, what do you think of? Do you think of The Coalition taking over after Epic’s Departure? Are the adventures of Marcus Fenix or Kait Diaz the first thing that come to mind? If you talk about Gears of War Staff who are the three names that come to mind? Easily, Cliff Bleszinski, John Dimaggio, and Rod Fergusson are the first three names that come to mind. Sadly, as of March only one of those three men will remain part of the Gears of War franchise. Today, The Coalition Head has announced his departure from the company he helped establish.

Rod Fergusson has been with Gears of War since its conception. Since the founding of The Coalition, Mr. Gears has lead the beloved franchise in a new direction. Despite Gears 5′s positive reception, The Coalition head has announced his departure from the company he helped found. In a series of tweets, the Gears Viking announced that he will be joining Blizzard to oversee Diablo. Despite his departure, Fergusson requested that fans enjoy Gears Tactics when it releases on April 28th. Rod Fergusson will hopefully lead Blizzard into a successful Diablo 4 launch.

RF’s Microsoft Career

Rod Fergusson originally started his career with Microsoft in 1996. In 2005, Rod Fergusson moved to Epic Games to become part of the Gears of War franchise. Outside of the Gears of War franchise, Fergusson assisted with the development of Bioshock Infinite. Gears Tactics will be the last Gears of War title that Rod Fergusson will work on at least for the time being.

Despite announcing his departure from The Coalition, Rod Fergusson has not stated if he will return in the future or assist with Gears of War 6. Blizzard has received criticism due to the Hearthstone controversy and Blizzard pulling Mei items after Hong Kong protestors started using Mei as a symbol.

You can follow the legend under his GearsViking Twitter Handle. Don’t worry, you will probably still catch the man on the battlefield.
