It’s time to conquer some of North America’s most challenging wilderness terrain. Coming this April, the makers of MudRunner will put players back in driver’s seat in SnowRunner. Today publisher Focus Home Interactive unveiled the new Conquer the Wilderness trailer, showcasing some of the vehicles and terrain in Alaska and Michigan that players can look forward to exploring.
Set in the vast wilderness areas of Alaska, Michigan, and the Taymyr Peninsula in Russia’s far north, SnowRunner will challenge players get behind a variety of iconic trucks in areas where just staying upright can be a challenge. Even the trailer shows a hint of this, with an 18-wheel heavy hauler getting stuck partway to the destination and needing to be rescued by a tow vehicle with a winch. Much like Overpass, SnowRunner isn’t just a driving simulator, it’s an applied physics puzzle.
SnowRunner builds on the success of MudRunner, formerly Spintires: Mudrunner, with a new graphics engine and improved physics. The snow covered environments which give the game its title will provide players with a new set of challenges such as frozen lakes, snowbanks, and ice. There will, of course, still be mud. Lots, and lots of mud, especially when those snowbanks get churned up by some heavy equipment.
Players will be able to drive over forty vehicles from licensed brands such as Western Star, Ford, Chevrolet, and Freightliner. SnowRunner will be fully playable solo, but will also support fully synchronous four-player co-op. Here’s a chance to continue the classic Ford vs. Chevy rivalry by pulling the other out of the mud at some point.
SnowRunner is currently scheduled for release on April 28th on the Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One consoles, and on PC through the Epic Games Store. Interested players should keep an eye on the game’s official Twitter account, @PlayMudRunner, and official Facebook page for all the latest details.
