Tower Defense Meets Dark Souls

Hell Warders Hits Store Shelves

The tower defense-action RPG hybrid Hell Warders has released physical copies for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. European stores already have access to these, but developer Anti-Gravity and PQube announced that physical editions will reach North America on Tuesday, March 17th.

It seems that the forces of Hell like to occasionally holiday in the mortal realm. Whenever they do, it is up to the Hell Warders to implement travel bans and send them packing. When a plague of abyssal forces march into the city, Hell Warders both strategically place defending forces and take to the front line themselves.

Players can choose one of three heroes known as Hell Warders. Mainly this means assigning defending forces to various positions around the map but rather than a top-down view like many tower defense titles, Hell Warders employs a third-person, over-the-shoulder perspective. Feel the chaos and turmoil as human and demonic forces clash while you charge into the fray yourself. Each hero has a variety of special abilities and playstyles, from a typical tank to the guerrilla-fighting gunslinger. Victory will mostly depend upon how well you array archers, mages, catapults, and the like. Furthermore, you will need to maintain and upgrade both units and yourself if you hope to succeed.

Okay, “thinnest” isn’t a word that can apply to this guy. . .

In what looks like a mixture of Dark Souls, League of Legends, and Diablo, you will have to sprint from one end of the battle to the other, offering support to wherever the fighting is thickest or your defenses are thinnest. Hell Warders supports up to four-player co-op, where you and either local friends or online combatants can team up. Whether it be a horde of horrors or a single, towering foe, you very well may be grateful for any helping hand.

Now that’s a pretty cool character design. Nashandra from Dark Souls 2 crossed with Aldritch from DS3 plus Nevan from Devil May Cry 3?

An English and Western Laws & Ethics graduate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Matt’s doing his best to find his way back to Middle Earth or Naboo. However, the closest he can get is reading, writing, or gaming, so he’s trying to accept his lack of pet dragons and devoting himself to those things instead. In his spare time, he practices traditional Chinese Ken-Po in the hopes that he will someday become an Earth Bender.
