Troglobytes Games rogue-like shooter and brawler HyperParasite will release on April 2nd for North America and the European and on April 3rd for Japan! This body-snatching dystopia is coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
In a dystopia that seems to take a leaf or five from ’80s classics like Blade Runner, you are the HyperParasite. As a malicious alien that gets their thrills from tormenting humans, you will infest and control whoever you must to eventually take over the president of the United States. You will shoot, punch, and otherwise tear your way through heaps of humans, infecting choice subjects on the way. Once you get your slimy tentacles into the president’s head, you will savor the moment when you push the Big Red Button and initiate the global, nuclear holocaust.
Gameplay
As the HyperParasite, you can overpower potential hosts and absorb them. When you do, you will also assimilate their unique abilities. When your host body is ripped to shreds, you can cast the useless meat aside and claim a new host. However, you must do so quickly because even one strike in your exposed, true form means permadeath. Some upgrades can prevent this, but who knows when or if you will find them?
There are over sixty (60) unique characters whose bodies you can co-opt. Each has their own unique attack and finishing move. When you find and kill a host boss, you can tear their brains from their skulls and store them with Wito, the game’s shopkeeper. This greedy slimeball will take what money you *cough* earn *cough cough* to unlock those hosts for your own use. Even if you have to start over, there is a storage unit where you can save previously collected hosts for later games.
HyperParasite is procedurally generated, so don’t think that you can become complacent. You never know what might come next. There are also secrets to explore in the game’s five acts as you map each stage. The ’80s-inspired synth soundtrack is composed by Van Reeves and Joe Kataldo. Each time you body snatch or kill someone, the soundtrack will reward you with a pulsating baseline to motivate you further. HyperParasite also supports two-player local co-op games! What better way to sow chaos and destruction than with a friend?
