Mario Kart Tour introduces worldwide, real-time multiplayer races on March 8th

Mobile Multiplayer Comes to Mario Kart Tour

Nintendo’s first Mario Kart game on iOS and Android devices will launch its new, real-time multiplayer mode on March 8th at 8pm, P.T.! Once players update to the game’s newest version, they will be able to race players from anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, Mario Kart Tour is only a free-to-start game, rather than entirely free to play. Don’t get your hopes up if you were looking for another fun, free mobile game. However, if you are ready to “shell” out some green, then you can compete with the best, wherever they may be!

It’s Mario Kart on your phone. At this point, the franchise should be so well established that it does not take a great leap of reasoning to figure out what that means. There are Mario Kart races, playable Mario Kart characters from Nintendo’s long history, and an array of different karts and gliders to choose from. There are some twists on classic Mario Kart tracks and maps, plus courses inspired by real-world cities and seasonal events, but even most of those are fairly familiar to Mario Kart fans. What is different about Mario Kart Tour is that the game has various rules that change every day. That ought to keep you on your toes at least! Similarly, players who decide to compete with friends or in local matches can dictate which rules they want to apply to their race.

Like so many “free” mobile games, though, Mario Kart Tour kneecaps its players by restricting various functions. Unless you pay $4.99 per month, you will not be able to reach top speeds, nor will you have access to the 200cc (Hard Mode) races, in-game gold, or badges from gold challenges. That being said, the Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass is not necessary to enjoy Standard Races or play with friends in local multiplayer rooms.

What is required to play are a Nintendo Account, a software compatible smartphone, and at least a consistent internet connection.

If you want to know more about Mario Kart Tour, you can check out their official website here or follow their Twitter page! For more information about the Gold Pass, such as price and features, you can investigate it here.

An English and Western Laws & Ethics graduate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Matt’s doing his best to find his way back to Middle Earth or Naboo. However, the closest he can get is reading, writing, or gaming, so he’s trying to accept his lack of pet dragons and devoting himself to those things instead. In his spare time, he practices traditional Chinese Ken-Po in the hopes that he will someday become an Earth Bender.
