Publisher Annapurna Interactive revealed I Am Dead, during this afternoon’s Nintendo Indie World Showcase. The game is a single-player adventure puzzle game with a heartfelt story about exploring the afterlife. Developers Hollow Ponds and Richard Hogg are responsible for bringing I Am Dead to life. Some of their previous work includes Hohokum, Loot Rascals, and Wilmont’s Warehouse. I Am Dead appears to fit right at home, with Hollow Ponds other unique titles.
The game centers around recently-deceased Shelmerston museum curator, Morris Lupton. After reuniting with the ghost of his deceased dog Sparky, the two set off on an adventure to save their home. The duo travel the island visiting places of their past, all in an attempt to capture Shelmerston’s lost ghosts. By diving inside the memories of the island’s inhabitants, they will learn their life stories.
Morris is able to peer inside people and objects, due to his newfound ability, viewing past memories. Shelmerston’s many secrets and history will unfold, as Morris views past memories through the island’s inhabitants and object. Will Morris and Sparky be able to uncover Shelmerston’s ancient mysteries? Can they prevent the destruction of Shelmerston Island, due to a volcanic eruption?
While no official date was given, I Am Dead launches later this year on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. The game will release first on Nintendo Switch as a timed console exclusive.
