Ragequit Studios has finally launched its first-person racer SRC: Sprint Robot Championship on Steam! With its launch, this fast paced, almost frenetic time-trial based game is now equipped with several new perks. This includes controller support, four new Sprint tracks that were not a part of Early Access, and a release-week special championship.
As with any racing game, momentum is key. Slowing down in any way is sure to make you lose time and possibly end up behind the competition. SRC has taken this to heart, though, and launches players into a race with NO SPEED CAP. While shooting along the track faster than Captain Falcon and dodging obstacles at a Matrix-esque pace, SRC drives players to slide, boost, wall-run, and even sprint upside-down simultaneously. If you are looking to test your reflexes, then this could well be a worthy challenge.
The Game Itself
The game itself is set in a future city visually reminiscent of “Tron.” Here, robots compete in the premier Sprint Robot Championships. The player has an assortment of robots to choose from and can tackle four different game modes.
Circuit: This is a bit more of a traditional race, where you run multiple laps. However, considering that momentum is the name of the game, you might change your strategy and route to accommodate time to build speed.
Sprint: I mean, this is the literal name of the game, so… Anyhow, this mode is based on reaching checkpoints via the shortest method possible. Aside from focusing on efficiency, players also can find shortcuts and hidden paths if they keep an eye out.
Eliminator: This is one of those “see how long you can go for” games. You have only a limited amount of time to reach each checkpoint and extend the clock. This is where you can make best use of that limitless speed and strive for the longest run on record.
Championship: The single-player campaign. Yup, there is a racing campaign in SRC. Points are awarded according to the racer’s overall performance.
Additional Mechanics
Once you feel that you are ready for the big leagues, SRC allows you to challenge friends and other players online. This means that you can enjoy racing matchmaking with up to four players. Likewise, SRC has a global leaderboard. If you want to, you can aim to knock the top sprinters from their pedestals by setting world records in the various modes and maps.
