Taiwanese card game Frenemy Pastry Party is being translated into English and ought to arrive this fall! Designed by Jessie Li (designer of Ponzi Scheme) and originally published by Mizo Games, Frenemy has now been adopted by Solis Game Studio.
A Game With Cute Animals And Pastries
What more do you need to know? Oh. How the game actually works. Right…
Well, this family-friendly card game has each player take the role of a pastry-cooking animal. Over the course of the game, players will collect ingredients and cake recipes. In order to score, you must either sell necessary ingredients to other players for a couple of points each or bake a cake to get a ton of points! However, players can lie. Since selling ingredients to one of your “friends” may allow them to bake a cake and earn lots of points, you might not want to sell. Furthermore, each cute critter has its own tastes, so each player will tally their scores differently. It all depends upon what ingredients their animals like.
Specifics
Ages: Frenemy Pastry Party is suitable for anyone of eight (8) years or older.
Game Duration (15-30 min): Each match is estimated to last between fifteen (15) and thirty (30) minutes. That depends on how lucky and devious the players decide to be!
Players (3-6): In order to properly play, you need at least three players. More than six players, however, breaks the game.
North America Release Date (Fall 2020): We do not have specific information on a release date yet. However, Solis Game Studio will initiate a Kickstarter in May to fund the project and hopefully launch the localized game during this fall!
Bonus: The English version of this game comes with an extra perk, however. We can play as a little fox! If you join the Kickstarter, you can also receive an animal friend T-shirt and a cake-themed playmat!
Now let’s see how quickly you can bake and how many friendships you are willing to burn to do so! You can expect in the near future a full hand-on preview leading up to this Kickstarter. Until then, keep an eye on Marooners’ Rock and the Solis Game Studio Twitter for when the Kickstarter goes live. The Kickstarter itself can be found here. Be sure to check it and click the button on the page so you are ready for the launch.
