It’s been a long road for Project Sense, and that road is looking to finally come to an end. Developer Suzaku took to Kickstarter to give a huge update to the Cyberpunk horror game, Project Sense. After a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign, Project Sense is now “content complete” and aims to b releasing this coming August. The news comes nearly two years after the Kickstarter campaign concluded, with over 600% funded for the game.
Project Sense, or Sense, is a 2.D Cyberpunk horror title, greatly inspired by the horror classics of Clock Tower and Fatal Frame. In the forgotten streets of Neo Hong Kong, Mei, a cyborg sex worker, works the streets. Mei has received a few cybernetic enhancements to her face, eyes, and skull, allowing her to analyze and the world with better clarity. An evil darkness begins to emerge from the abandoned Chang Sing Apartments, sweeping into the city. As Mei is equipped with advanced optics, Mei begins to see ghosts and other nightmarish apparitions. For Mei, her world begins to crash, blurring the line between reality and the trust of her optics. These ghosts cannot be defeated and must be passed on. To solve a century-old mystery, Mei will search the entire city, talking to various persons and gaining clues as to the truth behind the Chang Sing Apartments. There are no weapons and no one to call. If Mei cannot solve this mystery, she will succumb to the darkness of death.
Sense is heavily inspired by cyberpunk anime, most especially the works Masamune Shirow (Ghost In The Shell, Dominion Tank) and Chifumi Suzuki, the characters designer at Koei Tecmo who has handled Fatal Frame and many of the Dead or Alive Games. Sense infuses eroticism and fan-service to a degree where it blends with the nature of the world and the narrative but does not distract from the core gameplay. IN Sense, players solve the mystery of the Chang Sing Apartment Complex, talking to various persons and interactive with items. Some clues may reveal themselves as Mei is equipped with advanced eyes, but some may be hidden because of her eyes. Sense will emphasis consequences as there are no autosaves or checkpoints. Manual saving is mandatory in Sense as anyone’s choice or interaction can potentially end the game. The world of Sense is filled with secrets and to solve the mystery, players explore a large world and search every last corner of the city.
The development team detailed the latest progress in a blog post on their Kickstarter page. As of now, progress has moved swimmingly well, even in the face of disruption caused by COVID-19. All members of the team have been safely working on the game, accomplishing the many steps necessary to game launch. However, there has been a significant setback and that is in their social media presence. Regrettably, and without warning, Twitter shut their account down, severing the main source of social media visibility to Sense. The team is highly encouraging sharing a link to their steam page to ensure that the game is seen, as they continue to work with Twitter to restore the account.
Sense is set for a targeted launch on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation Vita in August 2020, with a physical edition to come later from eastasisasoft. Sense can now be wish listed on Steam.
