During today’s Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase, they announced that a high definition remake of Shin Megami Tensei III will come to the Nintendo Switch in Spring 2021 alongside the next main entry in the series, Shin Megami Tensei V.
Shin Megami Tensei V
The Shin Megami Tensei series has been a long time fan favorite and several titles have received considerable critical acclaim. Shin Megami Tensei V will be the next big entry in the series and exclusive to the Nintendo Switch. As for what this game will be about, we have little to go on. All we have are the video from Nintendo Direct and an ominous quote from their press team:
In this epic role-playing game, order itself has crumbled and chaos reigns over all. –Nintendo Press Team
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster
Back in 2003, this game’s title was shortened to Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne for its U.S. release. As a classic and a hallmark entry in the series, the full remake ought to inspire nostalgia in long-time fans and perhaps entice those unfamiliar with the franchise.
This post-apocalyptic JRPG is set in the remnants of Tokyo, now known as the Vortex World. After a cult enacts a global doomsday and rebirth event called the Conception, the high school aged protagonist transforms into a half-demon. Now pure-blooded demons infest what is left of Tokyo. While fighting for survival, the protagonist becomes enmeshed in the machinations of both the Reasons, non-human entities that intend to remake the world in their image, and Lucifer, the king of demons.
Not what most kids imagine their high school graduation party would look like.
