At PAX East 2019, we met with Shiro Games to preview their upcoming cooperative zombie roguelite action game Darksburg. Since then, Darksburg has sat in our steam library hidden away until its release. Earlier this week, Northgard and Evoland studio Shiro Games announced Darksburg would be departing from Stream Early Access and reanimating as a full official Steam title later this September. The game’s upcoming release falls perfect with the Fall Season. Halloween is just around the bend, so why not prepare for the Spooky season with horror and survival games. Shiro Games upcoming game combines elements of Left 4 Dead, Gauntlet, and other m.o.b.a.s to create a unique experience.
As darkness falls across the land, the winds of change bring death to the land. With the sun slowly disappearing, darkness wraps its cold hands around the throat of humanity. How will you survive this fall into darkness, battle the mysterious forces alone, or team up with others to survive?
Shiro Games’ Darksburg allows players to assemble a team of up to four Survivors and defend the medieval city of Darksburg from an undead uprising. In this Co-Op dungeon crawler, players must fight through waves of shambling zombies, clear the streets, and complete bonus objectives. As a reward, new perks are unlocked with each level gained. Players must strategize before setting out to clear the city. Each level is procedurally-generated with new powerful loot to be discovered.
Players can choose between Varag the wolfman, cookware-wielding inn-keep Runolf, Sister Abigail the warrior nun, deadeye bounty hunter Rose, and the roster’s most recent addition, Dolorosa, the macabre medic. Players who strategize ahead of time can blend special abilities and passive traits to be successful against the undead.
Outbreak Mode
Thanks to the community playing during the six months of Steam early access, Shiro Games has created a new mode for Darksburg, Outbreak Mode. Outbreak Mode is an endlessly replayable mode; survivors can rank up and unlock new character perks while also enjoying reactive scaling. This ensures solo players and seasoned squads alike are appropriately challenged.
Players must fend off the foes to unlock customization options, including new character skins, a range of difficulty options, and ascension levels for an additional challenge. Players can gather rare ingots to obtain Curios, bonus-conferring items that can be equipped at the beginning of every match. Mix Curios with skills, perks, and abilities to give the Survivors a chance to surmount the endless flood of zombies and Revenants swarming Darksburg’s cobbled streets.
