There have been rumblings within the gaming community regarding a new Harry Potter game for quite some time. Now, it has come from out of the shadows. Portkey Games, Avalanche Softwater, and Warner Bros have formally announced Hogwarts Legacy, a next-generation title themed to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
The unveiling came during the PlayStation 5 showcase this afternoon, following hints and rumors of a new Harry Potter game int he works, with rumors going back as far as 2018. Hogwarts Legacy is set well before the events of Harry Potter, and its prequel series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them. Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 1800’s, and a new generation of wizards begin their careers at Hogwarts. It is unknown what genre Hogwarts Legacy will fall in and what exactly the game’s mechanics will entail, but if rumors are to be believed, Hogwarts Legacy will likely be an open-world adventure RPG.
