The man who introduced Tony Stark to a larger universe is coming back to television. Variety Magazine reports that Samuel L. Jackson has signed on for a Disney Plus series. Mr. Robot and Copper writer Kyle Bradstreet has likewise joined to write and executive produce the series. Plot details are scarce at the moment, but it’s rumored that the focus will on the Secret Invasion storyline.
Spearheaded by Kevin Feige, this is the latest Marvel TV production designed to merge its storyline with other Marvel TV and film productions. Similar upcoming projects include She-Hulk, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Ms. Marvel, Loki, and Moon Knight.
Jackson’s Nick Fury has been a recurring support character throughout the Marvel cinematic universe. Even going back to the 2008 Iron Man film, he was recruiting other main characters and giving them a reason to unite. Now, though, he will finally have a chance to be the main character.
Jackson played Nick Fury following in the footsteps of David Hasselhoff’s 1998 portrayal. Much of this is thanks to Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch re-imagining the character for Marvel’s Ultimates comic book line. The character also made brief cameos in ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D series.
Light Speculation
However, the last anyone saw of Nick was at the end of the latest Spider-Man movie, Far From Home. [Spoilers] There we saw him lounging aboard a Skrull vessel in the middle of space. Unfortunately, the only information we have regarding that scene is from his relaxed, at-home demeanor, and his mention of “work” to be done. That’s not much for us to go off of and for all we know, this upcoming series might not even address his time with the Skrull. At least, it might not do so right away.
