Xbox Series S Officially Announced by Microsoft

Xbox Series S

For months, rumors of an only digital Xbox Series X have floated around the internet. Previously known as Project Lockhard, the Xbox Series S has officially been confirmed by Microsoft after leaking online. Since before June, little bits of information so leaked out about Xbox’s next-gen alternative console. Yesterday evening, Youtuber Brad Sams revealed images of the Xbox Series S; in his video, he also discussed the Series S’ price point. In response to the video, Microsoft has confirmed the Xbox Series S existence and price point. Microsoft has promised to reveal new information about the tiniest console on a future date.

Although Brad is not the original leaker or revealer, his video has caught the gaming community’s attention. The Xbox Series S will cost $299.99, a $100 dollar increase compared to the Xbox One S. The Xbox Series S is rumored to be completely digital. Compared to the Series X, the Series S will allow gamers to play next-gen games at a fraction of the price. This will allow Xbox gamers to play Halo Infinite and other next-gen games on a digitally focused device.

With the Xbox Series S announced, Microsoft will reveal the device’s specifications with the next few weeks, if not sooner. We can also expect that Microsoft will also reveal the Xbox Series X price within the next month. At the moment, it is expected that the Xbox Series X will cost $499.99; it is possible that Microsoft will hold the Series X’s price point till late-September, mid-October.

Will Marketing Strategies Change?

Has the damage already be dealt though? Now that Microsoft’s Xbox Series S has been revealed with its official price being confirmed, Sony now has the opportunity to market the digital PS5 at a lower price. Will you buy an Xbox Series S over an Xbox Series X if it is a $200 price difference? Will Sony match PS5 digital with the Xbox Series S price point?
