Over the last two years, Cyberpunk 2077 has generated headlines for a variety of reasons. One significant reason behind the game’s headlines is actor Keanu Reeves. At E3 2019, Keanu Reeves shocked the world by appearing on stage during the Xbox 2019 press conference. This surprise appearance was to reveal gameplay from Cd Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077.
Since then, Keanu Reeves has been one of the main faces of Cyberpunk 2077. Earlier this week, CD Projekt Red was once again in the headlines but not for new game information. Instead, the studio was criticized for requesting its workers to do six-day work weeks leading up to the game’s launch. Within the last five years, crunch weeks have been receiving more criticism due to news coverage; however, crunch weeks prior to launch are nothing new.
During the first game of the NBA Finals between the LA Lakers and the Miami Heat, viewers got to see a new Cyberpunk 2077 trailer. During this TV trailer, Keanu Reeves introduces NBA fans to Night City. With Bad Guy playing in the background, he says, “What makes somebody a criminal? Getting caught. You can become anyone, anything if your body can pay the price. So seize the day and set it on fire.”
Could Keanu be the Bad Guy?
We know that Keanu Reeves’s character Johnny Silverhand will be a major character in Cyberpunk 2077. What we do not know is if he will be a good guy or a bad guy. Past CD Projekt Red games, the player’s decision can lead to varying outcomes. Could one result cause Johnny to go John Wick on us? Knowing CD Projekt Red’s love of Easter eggs, we can expect that there will be some references to Reeves’s previous work. Wouldn’t that be excellent? Either way, we should prepare for a futuristic dark dystopia similar to the Matrix. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
