Little things come in big packages. In 2019, Lillymo Games launches the retro-style spaceship shooter, Habroxia. The game was released on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and the most niche handheld in existence, the PlayStation Vita. Coming off of the successful release of Twin Breaker: A Sacred Symbols Adventure, Colin Moriarty and Lillymo Games have announced Habroxia 2 the sequel to Habroxia. Coming in bigger, louder, and smoother than ever, Habroxia 2 looks to send players on a retro-styled journey next February.
The news comes from Twitter and an official announcement from eastasiasoft and Lillymo Games. As a successor to Habroxia, Habroxia 2 is aiming to be a big installment from its predecessor, adding on to the established formula that was set in the original. Habroxia 2 will be a narrative-driven experience, a significant addition as the original did not feature a story. Habroxia 2 promises new features, such as new weapons, multiple routes per stage, an improved visual and audio presentation, and a staggering 20+ bosses to fight.
Based upon Colin Moriarty’s work on Twin Breaker: A Sacred Symbols Adventure, Habroxia 2 looks to have a solid story. A devastating attack on Free Space prompts a response to investigate the source of the attack. One of the pilots doesn’t come home, and it so happens to be the father of Sabrina, a talented starfighter pilot. Determined to discover the truth, she takes off on a lone mission to find out what happened to her father, and end the threat to humanity.
Like its predecessors, Habroxia 2 challenges players to fight and survive, racking up the high score and earning points for upgrades. Habroxia 2 places players in a variety of sidescrolling and top-scrolling levels. A multitude of enemy combat ships and traps scatter each level. Skilled players will master the variety of weapons and power-ups scattered in each level in order to survive.
When a famous starpilot goes missing, it's up to his daughter to find him.

In addition to the announcement, Eastasiasoft and PlayAsia made the announcement of a physical release of Habroxia 2 for the PlayStation Vita. Despite being woefully forgotten by Sony, the PlayStation Vita continues to release games, both physically and digitally. The physical pre-order begins on December 3rd on PlayAsia, and comes in a collector’s box, along with a manual and game soundtrack. Finally, the original Habroxia will be launching onto Xbox One on December 2nd.
Habroxia is a great example of a game developer taking the time to weave enthusiasm into their game and release it into the wild. Habroxia didn’t have bells and whistles, but it was a solid experience that remained firm to its gameplay and presentation. Habroxia was impressive in that it was developed by one person, and felt like a game made on the original NES, during its final years. Seeing it grow into a sequel is an impressive feat and one I am eager to see for myself.
Habroxia 2 launches on February 3, 2021 on PS4, Vita, Switch, XBO, and PC.
