Retro-inspired new releases have become commonplace, in the video game industry. Many developers will stylize their games to look like those of the past. Examples include 2013’s indie darling Shovel Knight, or the recently announced space-shooter Habroxia 2. Most of these retro-inspired titles end up releasing on current generation hardware. What isn’t common, is developers releasing new games for old platforms. While this is very popular in the homebrew scene, it’s rare to see these types of games release physically. Indie team Spacebot Interactive has opened up pre-orders for their brand new physical release Game Boy horror title, Deadeus.
Deadeus is an authentic horror Gameboy game developed using Chris Maltby’s GB Studio engine, Featuring music by Stuart Busby.
The game centers around a small boy who has a prophetic nightmare telling him everyone will die in 3 days and that he has to investigate his village to see how he can save them, if at all.
The game has 11 endings and no direct path leaving it up to the player to decide which is the best course of action.
That’s right, an all-new Game Boy game releasing in 2021! Deadeus is being sold exclusively on Spacebot’s official shop, and cost £42.00. The standard edition includes a physical Game Boy cartridge, box, and instruction booklet. Pre-orders are live now but will close on Feb 15th, 2021.
